Class 'A' Truck Driver Training

Commercial Driver Services' goal is to provide the highest quality of training to individuals seeking to become commercial truck drivers. CDS will provide the professional instruction necessary for our students to develop the skills and learn the techniques essential in becoming safe, competent and productively employed Class 'A' commercial truck drivers.

The cost of the 160-hour course is $4,495 including the mandatory DOT physical and drug screen, and the Department of Licensing's fees.  Click here for a cost breakdown.

The CDL Class 'A' Course is 4 weeks long and offered in day and night classes.  Our comprehensive, well-structured, 160-hour commercial truck driver training program includes one week in the classroom and three weeks of driving, backing and mastering the pre-trip & in-cab inspections.  Upon completion, students are tested for their CDL skills exam on-site. Class 'A' Program graduates will receive a Diploma and Transcript as well as the current local job list.

First Week--Classroom: In the first week of our course, you will study for your written endorsement tests. These endorsements are:

  • General Knowledge
  • Air Brakes
  • Combination Vehicles
  • Tankers
  • Doubles and Triples
  • Hazardous Materials

In the classroom, you will study log book, pre- and post- trip inspections, brake adjustment, map reading, trip planning, hours-of-service and much more. In addition to our hands-on approach, CDS provides a complete film library to aid in teaching.

Field Training-Weeks 2, 3 and 4: Following the classroom instruction week, students spend the next 3 weeks in driver training. Each student receives 40 plus hours of individual behind the wheel training time. (note: 40 hours are in addition to the many hours in the yard spent practicing techniques such as backing.)

During the 4th and final week of class, you will take your CDL Road Skills Test onsite in the same trucks you have trained in for the past 3 weeks. On the last Friday (Graduation Day), we will celebrate your successful completion of the program by holding a graduation ceremony where you will receive your diploma, grade transcript and certificate of attendance which makes you eligible to obtain your commercial drivers license.
